The ZAL Port of Barcelona signs the lease of the BZ2's 11 hectares to 75 years

The available soil for logistics developments at the BZ2 that the Consorci de la Zona Franca placed on the market in June has been a strategic opportunity for CILSA who wouldn’t let it go. There were four companies to the tender: The British company Segro Properties Spain S.L., Hines Reyes Innova S.L. and Prologis Spain Management S.L. – both American-, and CILSA, which won the lease that is being sealed today.

The uniqueness of the 11 hectares plot located at the confluence of the Street 2 and the street A, just adjacent to the Port of Barcelona, is an excellent location which together with its dimensions, makes of the ZAL the logistic reference for large developments in the first crown of Barcelona, being the only one able to offer a product logistic turnkey 60,000-75,000 square meters.

Alfonso Martínez, Director General of CILSA says: "the lease for 50 years plus the extension of 25 more, allows us to extend the life of the company more than its current concessions as well as increasing the logistical offer in order to respond to the growth in the medium term of the Port of Barcelona, attracting sea it flows at the same time".

The signing of this plot’s lease represents a turning point for the company that is expected to come accompanied by the beginning of new construction of turnkey projects. It is the result to the management made these past three years, the efficiency achieved and its financial strength. Facts that allows considering new developments in the short term.

The ZAL is one of the key pieces in the five different business of the Port of Barcelona and assumes an active role to establish itself as a first magnitude logistic pole able to generate wealth, jobs and consequently is an economic engine of relevance.

CILSA has led the development, promotion and marketing of this area since its foundation in 1992 and the 212 hectares located in the Port of Barcelona are currently close to 100% of occupation, with more than 130 installed companies. Some of them are the freight forwarders leaders of the market, international and Spanish logistics operators, as well as some large multinationals with global distribution needs. About CILSA- ZAL DEL PORT OF BARCELONA

CILSA (Intermodal Logistics Centre, SA) is the corporation that manages the port concession in the area of logistics activities (ZAL) of the Port of Barcelona. CILSA is owned by the Port Authority of Barcelona with 63%, by Merlin Properties with 32% and 5% by the public enterprise of the land (SEPES).

Today, CILSA manages 212 hectares located in the municipalities of Barcelona (69 ha) and Prat del Llobregat (143 ha) and it has built directly into the ZAL a total of 403,300 sqm of logistics warehouses and an office building rent of 11,254 sqm, known as Service Center. Also, CILSA has granted surface right to clients who have built about 211,000 sqm of warehouses, setting up a 625,534 sqm logistics park, a pioneer in Spain in this kind of development.

The ZAL Port of Barcelona still has 279,500 sqm of land on which to build more than 180,000 sqm of new logistics warehouses, which allows to offer flexibility to its customers in response to any logistics needs, becoming a business partner to accompany a growth in the medium and long term in a suitable location, reaching 800,000 sqm of first class logistics infrastructures when fully developed.

The ZAL Port of Barcelona is located within the Port of Barcelona itself (with two shortcuts to it) and next to the Prat International Airport, with excellent connections to the metropolitan road infrastructure, as well as major axes mainline. Its intermodal capacity and its various value added services not only promote greater business efficiency of clients installed on their spaces, but also provide greater quality of life for people who work in them. All this together with its size, logistics, supply flexibility and logistics become the industry reference platform.

Concrete evidence of this is that more than 5,000 people are directly employed in ZAL in over 130 prestigious companies installed, both nationally and internationally as Decathlon, Carrefour, Bishop / DAMM Group, Indukern, Kühne + Nagel, Naeko Logístics, Rhenus, Transnatur, World Duty Free Group, CMA-CGM, etc.

Implanted industry segments in greater numbers are 80% the import and export distributors, manufacturers and logistics operators and freight forwarders 16%. Also thanks to the exponential growth of e-commerce, it is becoming significant segment of the courier sector.
