ZAL Port renews its commitment to collaborate with the Fundació Banc dels  Aliments by providing logistics infrastructure

With this agreement, CILSA continues contributing its grain of sand to sustainable solidarity projects over time, which allows Banc dels Aliments to have a logistics infrastructure in a prime location throughout the year, as well as providing all the infrastructure it has available for moments punctual of high need as it is in the Christmas campaign of the Gran Recapte d'aliments, in which CILSA has been collaborating in practically all its latest editions.

All the announcements of this food collection campaign -and others that the entity carries out- in the ZAL Port, contribute in large part to the success that the foundation has enjoyed in the distribution of food throughout the province of Barcelona.

The location of the ZAL Port is excellent for the operation that the foundation needs, as well as storage center for the non-perishable merchandise that covers the income of the aid that this entity receives from the European Union with local products, due to its proximity to the city of Barcelona, and where the critical mass of the neediest is concentrated.

The access to the platform also facilitates the management of volunteers who frequently collaborate and companies that want to help the foundation, allowing great agility in the control and entry of trucks coming from all parts of Spain.

"The cession of warehouses is one of the most valued collaborations by our Foundation, given that the logistics space in the city of Barcelona is very limited and the Food Bank does not have the resources to take on the rent of these spaces at the price of market. Therefore, we are very grateful, that in this context the logistics sector is experiencing an upward trend, the ZAL Port gives us warehouses that allow us to store food in optimal conditions and be able to program the distribution of food in a staggered way”, says Roser Brutau President of the Fundació Banc dels Aliments.

CILSA has wanted to renew this collaboration to support the aid against hunger in our city with the aim that this space decongests the facilities that the foundation has in the Avenida Zona Franca of Barcelona.

"From the ZAL Port we understand that this type of collaboration are part of our reason for being and we will always try to add within our possibilities to Social projects related to the logistics sector, such as those promoted by the foundation" pointed Alfonso Martínez, Director general of the ZAL Port.

Since the date of the first agreement of both organizations, in the ZAL Port have been carried out storage tasks, in 2017, of about 4,000,000 Kg of products from the European Union's aid program, in addition to the kilos handled during the Gran Recapte of the year 2017 that amounted to 2,000,000 Kg.

This agreement is integrated into the strategy of the ZAL Port, oriented to people, to the connection with the territory and social commitment. A management model that prioritizes services and involvement with social problems in the environment.

As a result of these strategically planned good practices with different milestones within the Social Action and the Environmental and Energy Policy, CILSA has consolidated different certifications: ISO 14001, EMAS, ISO 50001 to finally adhere to the United Nations Global Compact, favouring corporate sustainability, collaborating in this way with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
